2014-10-27PowerPC: drop some 74xx_7xx boards and related codeWolfgang Denk
The file board/Marvell/include/mv_gen_reg.h is incompatible with the GPL (see for example the "MARVELL RESERVES THE RIGHT AT ITS SOLE DISCRETION TO REQUEST THAT THIS CODE BE IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO MARVELL" clause). As this cannot be fixed, we remove the file and all code that depends on it. Fortunately this only affects some very old boards that have long reached EOL: CPCI750 DB64360 DB64460 p3m750 p3m7448 Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de> Cc: Reinhard Arlt <reinhard.arlt@esd-electronics.com> Cc: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de> Cc: Roger Meier <r.meier@siemens.com>
2014-09-13kconfig: remove redundant "string" type in arch and board KconfigsMasahiro Yamada
Now the types of CONFIG_SYS_{ARCH, CPU, SOC, VENDOR, BOARD, CONFIG_NAME} are specified in arch/Kconfig. We can delete the ones in arch and board Kconfig files. This commit can be easily reproduced by the following command: find . -name Kconfig -a ! -path ./arch/Kconfig | xargs sed -i -e ' /config[[:space:]]SYS_\(ARCH\|CPU\|SOC\|\VENDOR\|BOARD\|CONFIG_NAME\)/ { N s/\n[[:space:]]*string// } ' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.m@jp.panasonic.com>

2014-07-30kconfig: add board Kconfig and defconfig filesMasahiro Yamada
This commit adds: - arch/${ARCH}/Kconfig provide a menu to select target boards - board/${VENDOR}/${BOARD}/Kconfig or board/${BOARD}/Kconfig set CONFIG macros to the appropriate values for each board - configs/${TARGET_BOARD}_defconfig default setting of each board (This commit was automatically generated by a conversion script based on boards.cfg) In Linux Kernel, defconfig files are located under arch/${ARCH}/configs/ directory. It works in Linux Kernel since ARCH is always given from the command line for cross compile. But in U-Boot, ARCH is not given from the command line. Which means we cannot know ARCH until the board configuration is done. That is why all the "*_defconfig" files should be gathered into a single directory ./configs/. 2013-12-13PowerPC: merge commonly-defined flagsMasahiro Yamada

2013-10-31powerpc: convert makefiles to Kbuild styleMasahiro Yamada
Note: arch/powerpc/cpu/mpc8260/Makefile is originally like follows: ---<snip>--- START = start.o kgdb.o COBJS = traps.o serial_smc.o serial_scc.o cpu.o cpu_init.o speed.o \ ---<snip>--- COBJS-$(CONFIG_ETHER_ON_SCC) = ether_scc.o ---<snip>--- $(LIB): $(OBJS) $(call cmd_link_o_target, $(OBJS) $(obj)kgdb.o) The link rule `$(call cmd_link_o_target, $(OBJS) $(obj)kgdb.o)' is weird. kbdg.o is not included in $(OBJS) but linked into $(LIB) and $(LIB) is not dependent on kgdb.o. (Broken dependency tracking) So, START = start.o kgdb.o shoud have been START = start.o SOBJS = kgdb.o That is why this commit adds kgdb.o to obj-y, not to extra-y. 2013-03-15Replace __bss_end__ with __bss_endSimon Glass
Note this is a tree-wide change affecting multiple architectures. At present we use __bss_start, but mostly __bss_end__. This seems inconsistent and in a number of places __bss_end is used instead. Change to use __bss_end for the BSS end symbol throughout U-Boot. This makes it possible to use the asm-generic/sections.h file on all archs. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <sjg@chromium.org>
2013-03-12Refactor linker-generated arraysAlbert ARIBAUD
Refactor linker-generated array code so that symbols which were previously linker-generated are now compiler- generated. This causes relocation records of type R_ARM_ABS32 to become R_ARM_RELATIVE, which makes code which uses LGA able to run before relocation as well as after. Note: this affects more than ARM targets, as linker- lists span possibly all target architectures, notably PowerPC. 2012-10-22common: Discard the __u_boot_cmd sectionMarek Vasut

2011-04-20Revert "PowerPC: Add support for -msingle-pic-base"Wolfgang Denk
This reverts commit 39768f7715ed637ef02f49fc7de664cc1aaf14b3. Reson: it breaks a number of boards with embedded environment as the code size grows in some places.
2011-04-11PowerPC: Add support for -msingle-pic-baseJoakim Tjernlund
-msingle-pic-base is a new gcc option for ppc and it reduces the size of my u-boot with 6-8 KB. While at it, add -fno-jump-tables too to save a few more bytes. -msingle-pic-base will be in gcc 4.6, however backported patches are available at http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=347281 Signed-off-by: Joakim Tjernlund <Joakim.Tjernlund@transmode.se>
2011-04-11PowerPC: Move -fPIC flag to common placeJoakim Tjernlund

2010-11-17Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier
Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
2010-11-14PowerPC: Don't destroy fixup table while doing fixupsJoakim Tjernlund

2010-10-26Replace CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE by auto-generated valueWolfgang Denk
CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE has always been just a bad workarond for not being able to use "sizeof(struct global_data)" in assembler files. Recent experience has shown that manual synchronization is not reliable enough. This patch renames CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE into GENERATED_GBL_DATA_SIZE which gets automatically generated by the asm-offsets tool. In the result, all definitions of this value can be deleted from the board config files. We have to make sure that all files that reference such data include the new <asm-offsets.h> file. No other changes have been done yet, but it is obvious that similar changes / simplifications can be done for other, related macro definitions as well. 2010-10-26Rename CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_END into CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_SIZEWolfgang Denk
CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_END was a misnomer as it suggests this might be some end address; to make the meaning more clear we rename it into CONFIG_SYS_INIT_RAM_SIZE No other code changes are performed in this patch, only minor editing of white space (due to the changed length) and the comments was done, where noticed. Note that the code for the PATI and cmi_mpc5xx board configurations looks seriously broken. 2010-10-18powerpc: do not fixup NULL ptrsJoakim Tjernlund
The fixup routine must not fixup NULL pointers. Problem can be seen by char *testfun(void) __attribute__((weak)); char *(*myfun)(void) = testfun; Then add printf("myfun:%p, &myfun:%p\n", myfun, &myfun); before relocation and after relocation. myfun should be NULL in both cases but it is not. 2010-10-18powerpc: Cleanup BOOTFLAG_* referencesPeter Tyser
Now that warm booting is not supported, there isn't a need for the BOOTFLAG_COLD and BOOTFLAG_WARM defines, so remove them. Note that this change makes the board info bd_bootflags field useless. 2010-07-04Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk
The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ...
