2010-11-17Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier
Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
2010-10-18Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk
The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. 2010-10-11davinci_emac: davinci_eth_set_mac_addr to ->write_hwaddrBen Gardiner
This patch proposes to migrate the davinci_emac driver to using the eth_device->write_hwaddr function pointer as suggested by Ben Warren. All the davinci boards had the behaviour, prior to this patch, of sync'ing the environment variable enetaddr with the MAC address read from non-volatile storage on boot -- when the two locations disagreed, the environment variable value took precendence. This patch keeps the same behaviour but lets eth_initialize take care of it. This patch refactors davinci_emac setup in the boards so that the MAC address is read from non-volatile storage into the environment variable and then the environment variable value is use in eth_intialize. The only exception is the direct call to davinci_eth_set_mac_addr made by the da830evm board init which was changed into an assignment of the enetaddr field. 2009-06-12ARM DaVinci:Consolidate common u-boot.ldsSandeep Paulraj
The u-boot.lds is common for all DaVinci boards. The patch removes multiple instances and moves the u-boot.lds to /cpu/arm926ejs/davinci folder. This addresses one of the comments i received while submitting patches for DM3xx Signed-off-by: Sandeep Paulraj <s-paulraj@ti.com>
2009-06-12davinci: display correct clock infoDavid Brownell
Move the clock-rate dumping code into the cpu/.../davinci area where it should have been, enabled by CONFIG_DISPLAY_CPUINFO, updating the format and showing the DSP clock (where relevant). Switch boards to use the cpuinfo() hook for this stuff. Remove a few now-obsolete PLL #defines. Signed-off-by: David Brownell <dbrownell@users.sourceforge.net>
2009-06-12davinci: move psc support board-->cpuDavid Brownell
Move DaVinci PSC support from board/* to cpu/* where it belongs. The PSC module manages clocks and resets for all DaVinci-family SoCs, and isn't at all board-specific. Signed-off-by: David Brownell <dbrownell@users.sourceforge.net>

2009-03-20Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho
A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>
2009-02-22ARM DaVinci: Add common peripherals and modules enable functions.Hugo Villeneuve
Taken all the duplicated code for enabling common modules and apply software workarounds from the board specific code into common functions. Also added comments explaining the workarounds (from TI errata documents) and replaced some numerical bit numbers with more meaningful defines. 2008-11-18Align end of bss by 4 bytesSelvamuthukumar
Most of the bss initialization loop increments 4 bytes at a time. And the loop end is checked for an 'equal' condition. Make the bss end address aligned by 4, so that the loop will end as expected.
